Arsenal FC vs Newcastle United, England – Premier League, At San Mames Barria, Time: 13:30

Arsenal saw a 10 game unbeaten run ended by Liverpool last time out as they slipped to a 4-0 defeat but can bounce back against Newcastle in the early kick off on Saturday.

Eddie Howe’s tenure as Toon boss started with a 3-3 draw with Brentford but the former Bournemouth manager wasn’t in attendance after testing positive for Covid-19.

He may also be forced to miss the trip to the Emirates Stadium, but there were some signs of improvements in that performance against the Bees as he tries to put his stamp on the team from a distance.

It’s time to bash the bookies and gradually recover all that you’ve lost to the bookies in the past. It isn’t an ideal start for Howe at St James’ Park and they could be in for a difficult game on Saturday, as prior to that loss against Liverpool the Gunners were flying and will be looking to get back to that kind of form after a chastening defeat to one of the league’s best.

The early signs suggest Newcastle may well be on an upward trajectory under Howe, but Arsenal have made the Emirates a fortress in recent weeks and they should be able to win fairly comfortably on Saturday.

The North Londoners have seven wins in their last eight games on home soil, with one draw, and their only loss came against pacesetters Chelsea back in August. Arsenal have won by two or more goals in four of their last six home games and I’m expecting them to beat a -1 handicap against winless Newcastle this weekend.

However, the visitors may be good for a goal themselves as they have scored in each of their last five away games and in nine of their last 10 overall, only drawing a blank in a 3-0 defeat at home to a Chelsea side who boast comfortably the best defence in the league.

Arsenal have conceded in three of their last five home games and have won two of those 3-1, so a 3-1 win for the home side looks a reasonable option as our correct score bet.

Arsenal youngster Emile Smith-Rowe is in good scoring form with three goals in his last four Premier League appearances, including a goal in each of the Gunners’ last two home games in the league.

Smith-Rowe opened his account for England over the last international break and can grab his fifth Premier League goal of the season when Newcastle visit the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal predicted lineup: Ramsdale; Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Tierney, Partey, Maitland-Niles; Saka, Odegaard, Smith Rowe, Aubameyang

Newcastle United predicted lineup: Dubravka, Clark, Lascelles, Krafth, Ritchie, Shelvey, Willock, Murphy, Saint-Maximin, Wilson, Joelinton
