Following an outbreak of positive Covid-19 tests at Anfield, the first leg of the Carabao cup semifinal between Arsenal and Liverpool has been postponed.
The first leg of the fixture will now take place on January 13th at Anfield, while the second leg will take place on January 20th at the Emirates stadium.
A worsening outbreak of Covid-19 at Liverpool, which had earlier made coach, Jurgen Klopp, his assistant Pep Lijnders and a few players into isolation, prompted Liverpool to request that the game be shifted.
The outbreak has left Liverpool without a significant number of players and staff to fulfil the contest as originally scheduled.
A statement from the Reds said, “Liverpool Football Club would like to place on record its thanks to the EFL and Arsenal for their understanding, as well as supporters of both clubs, as we continue to navigate through this challenging period.”
Liverpool will now focus on their third round FA Cup game against Shrewsbury . The Reds are scheduled to face Shrewsbury at Anfield on Sunday.
